An Unfortunate Marriage: Peanuts and Corn Syrup

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

To my shock and horror I discovered corn syrups and other sugars added to jars of peanuts.
I usually by peanuts in the shell, but I don’t eat peanuts that often. I typically stick with more exotic nuts like macadamias, almonds, pistachios, pecans, cashews–because I’m so fancy.
I love a good peanut, though, dang it! I’m fortunate [...]

A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down?!

Friday, February 12th, 2010

What do a blizzard, NyQuil and candles all have in common? They all happened this past weekend. It wasn’t the 2 and a half feet of snow covering the city or the loss of heat, power and hot water that got to me most or the lighting our place with candles. It was finding out [...]

Humble Pie

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

I totally pride myself on my health. I love telling people that it’s been “xx” this many years since I’ve been sick. I have felt especially immune, cutting out sugar, so I figured that as long as I was sugar-free, my immune system would have superpowers strong enough to keep me from all harm.
Yesterday I [...]

Super Easy, Healthy Snacks

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

If you don’t have time to make the hummus yourself, buy it pre-made. I would rather have this high-protein snack on hand than not at all.
Cashews, raisins and prunes. The idea here is a naturally sweet snack loaded with plant protein. I usually have a variety of nuts.
Sliced apples and almond nut butter make a [...]
